Listing of Open Access DataBases (LOADB) project

Databases in various fields of science and technology are created by a large number of government agencies, research institutions, and academic institutions around the world.

Many of these databases are now freely available on the World Wide Web via individual portals or websites of the respective organizations.

Unfortunately, these databases are not classified separately. So, when a user searches the Internet, he or she receives thousands or millions of hits and continues to click on the websites to see if there is a relevant database associated with any of the websites.

It is a time-consuming process, and due to search engine limitations, only a hundred sites can be checked at any given time. It leads to a lack of awareness and access to freely available databases.

The goal of the Listing of Open Access DataBases (LOADB) project is to build a web-enabled, linked, classified, and categorized collection of Open Access Databases that can be accessed through a single portal.

Although the initial emphasis is on science and technology, the ultimate goal is to include all subject areas.

It is a pilot listing that is being peer reviewed in order to create a quality controlled collection of Open Access Databases.

All publishers who publish databases in Open Access mode are welcome to join the list.

To update and sustain its services, LOADB will rely on crowd sourcing, and it welcomes submissions and suggestions from all stakeholders, including database publishers, research institutions, universities, libraries, government and private agencies, scholars, and students.
